A Prayer For Your Child's Joy

I think we can all agree that we want our children to be full of joy. Right? But I think I’m too often guilty of confusing joy with happiness, temporary wonderful feelings or circumstances, or maybe even a naturally upbeat personality.

What if we prayed for our children to have more than a feeling that can come and go?

What if we started praying for our children to have a deep, abiding, unrelenting joy that is present in all circumstances, both good and hard?

A joy that sees light even in the darkest situations.

A joy that cannot be taken away because of the gospel and the Good News of Jesus Christ as the Savior of their lives.

Join me today as we believe for our children to be full of joy!

“Father God, before we can pray for our children to have joy, we pray for your Holy Spirit to bring conviction so they will see that they desperately need you as their Lord and Savior. Show them their sin and their need for you.

Show them how much you love them by dying on the cross for them and rising again from the grave to bring them back to God’s perfect plan and design.

I pray they would deeply know who they are as redeemed children of God. We pray that from the earliest age of understanding, they would know and experience the gospel, and that they would walk with you and grow with you all the days of their lives.

Please bring them into a true, genuine, and saving knowledge of you, Jesus, so they can become a new creation in you.

Thank you, Lord, that you have given us the gospel so that your joy may be in us and that our joy may be complete.

Make known to our children the path of life, that you will fill them with joy in your presence and with eternal pleasures at your right hand. May they go out with joy and be led by peace.

May the God of hope fill them with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit they may abound in hope.

May they be so full of your Spirit that they overflow with all the fruit of the Spirit. Today we pray especially for the fruit of joy to be evident in their lives.

When our children experience hard times, may they not lose their hope or the source of their joy. Instead, may they be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.

Finally, Lord, may they always remember that the joy of the Lord is their strength. May they take refuge in you and rejoice. Let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them so that those who love your name may exult in you.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
